How it can be used:
Against colds
1. Preventive
If someone in the family or office has a cold, simply vaporize 5 drops of ginger essential oil with water in a fragrance lamp as a preventative measure. Ginger oil can help reduce the risk of infection.
2. For cough
For stubborn, mucousy coughs, chest compresses with ginger oil are said to have a calming, antispasmodic and expectorant effect. To do this, simply mix 5 drops of ginger essential oil with 1 tbsp of sunflower oil and soak a piece of cotton cloth with it. Place the cloth on the chest and a hot water bottle on top so that the ginger oil can take effect. Let it work for about half an hour. In addition, you can add other oils such as lavender or eucalyptus oil to enhance the effect.
3. As a warming foot bath
In winter, after a day at the toboggan hill or a visit to the Christmas market, you often feel really frozen. The best way to get rid of the inner cold is - besides a cup of hot ginger tea - a warming foot bath with 5 drops of ginger oil. The pungent substances (gingerols) contained in ginger are said to promote blood circulation and provide pleasant, lasting warmth.
Compresses
If you have overdone it a little with sports, painful muscle soreness is often the result. Compresses with ginger oil can help to alleviate the discomfort. This is due to the blood circulation-promoting and pain-relieving properties of the root processed into oil. For the compress, simply dissolve 20 drops of ginger oil in 250 ml of lukewarm water and soak a cotton compress with this solution. Then place on the painful area and let it act for 30 min.
As a bath additive
Heat relaxes the muscles and soothes muscle tension in a natural way. A hot full bath works wonders after sports activities. If you add 5 drops of ginger oil to the bath water, sore muscles can be additionally prevented or at least the discomfort alleviated. To enhance the effect, you can also add a few drops of juniper berry or rosemary oil. However, you should not bathe in it for more than 20 min.
For massages
Ginger oil promotes blood circulation and thus, when applied externally, also warms from the inside. If you mix 3 drops of ginger oil with 1 tbsp of sunflower oil, this mixture is excellent for massages against tension and sore muscles.
